This fantastic Austin K4 lorry was one of a batch of 50 vehicles built for the fire service during World War II (sequentially registered as GXN 201 through to FXN 250).
The vehicle was restored for R Durtnell & Sons Ltd, a company who can trace its history back some 400 years, making it one of the oldest family-owned businesses in the country. They acquired the K4 to replicate the typical dropside lorry which the firm ran in the 1940s and 50s.
There is a comprehensive history in a feature article in “Heritage Commercials” magazine. A copy of which comes with the vehicle.
It is still in great condition and needs to be seen in person to appreciate.
